The Heart is True Supply

Description
Signed verso acrylic on carved brown oak.
This piece uses words from the Elizabethan part-song Fine Knacks for Ladies. The verse itself in anonymous, though clearly written by a poet of considerable skill; the music is by John Dowland and was published in 1601.
Destined for firewood, this piece echoes the phrase Though all my wares be Trash .
The wood is brown oak from Staunton Harold in Leicestershire, which had been cut to make a panel for a cabinet door, but was severely warped and had to be discarded.
A free copy of Martin Wenham’s new book Martin Wenham The Art of Letter Carving, published by Crowood Press (price £25), will accompany each purchase from the exhibition.
