Washerwoman For Sale

Description
Coloured pastel with pen, ink and pencil on paper.
Preparatory colour study for the lithograph of the same name.
Published by Observer Art; a publishing venture started by the British Sunday newspaper The Observer. They had discovered that Bloomsbury artist Duncan Grant was still active and living alone in Charleston. Observer Art felt that Grant had been ignored for too long so approached him with the idea of producing lithographs for publication.
In December 1972 Stanley Jones of Curwen Studio was commissioned by Observer Art to work with Grant to realise the project which resulted in 3 lithographs; Washerwoman being one of them.
Blind stamped from the archive of Curwen Master Printer, Stanley Jones.
