Original wood engraving.

This engraving shows Aries the ram over Sussex chalk cliffs. The figure holding a staff is clearly not cut into the chalk, but the reason for it s presence could be that of a shepherd.

The engravings were cut at the time when Ravilious and Bawden had just started on their two years work on the Morley College mural and some of the imagery is found in both projects. A number of the engravings in the suite feature backgrounds of the Sussex Downs including the Wilmington Long Man.
