A Dancer Panting For Discount

Description
Signed early lithograph, 1911.
Copley was stylistically and thematically influenced by the French artist Forain, a love of theatre and ballet which had obvious parallels with Degas and Sickert as well. We see it in his more familiar monochrome prints such as A Dancer Panting. It shows Copley’s love of cavernous space, this theatre subject immersed in the strong atmosphere of contrasting light, the figures almost secondary.
