The Poet Discount

Description
From The Blue Guitar suite.
Signed etching with aquatint from the main edition of 200.
This suite of etchings was inspired by a poem by Wallace Stevens, who had drawn inspiration from Picasso s painting The Old Guitarist.
Printed in London and New York at the Petersburg Studios.
Published by Petersburg Press as both a print portfolio and a book. Hockney created the images to accompany the book-length poem, The Man with the Blur Guitar (1937) by Modernist American poet Wallace Stevens.
After an initial series of ink drawings, Hockney progressed into coloured etchings, a technique he learned in Paris working with Aldo Crommelynck, Pablo Picasso s printer.
Hockney collaborated with Maurice Payne on this suite.
